Gynecologic Disease Center (GDC)
Within the new Gynecologic Disease Center (GDC) at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), the Division of Gynecologic Oncology provides top-notch patient care as well as continued medical education in the training of medical students, interns and residents.
The fellowship of gynecologic oncology is one of 32–board certified training programs in the country and the only program in the Department of Defense for the training of gynecologic cancer surgeons.
Research activities are comprehensive, focusing on both clinical and basic research. This group has received significant recognition for our research activities at the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s annual clinical meeting, which is attended by an international membership of gynecologic surgeons and researchers.
This past year, our research received praise from both the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the National Cancer Institute. The Division’s research was reviewed along with over 26,000 other research submissions from more than 12 professional cancer societies associated with leukemia, breast, colon, urologic and multiple other forms of cancer. One of the GDC projects was selected along with four others to be presented in the “Best of Oncology 2005” at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a meeting attended by over 35,000 physicians and scientists from the international community.
