Clinical Care
The clinical arm of the Gynecologic Disease Center is the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center provides complete, comprehensive and current care to our patients with gynecologic malignancies.
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology, under the direction of LTC(P) G. Scott Rose, MC, was recently designated a Center of Excellence in Gynecologic Oncology (GYN Oncology). A GYN Oncology Center of Excellence is defined as an outcome-driven program that is part of a National Institutes of Health-American Cancer Society-designated Cancer Center, and participates in NCI-supported collaborative research. WRAMC is the only DoD facility for advanced subspecialty–training in gynecologic oncology in the military. Army, Navy and Air Force personnel who are subspecialty trained in Gynecologic Oncology jointly staff this service. This world-class service has 30 years' experience in specialty training in the treatment of gynecologic malignancies.
The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology recently accredited the gynecologic oncology fellowship program for five years. The Gynecologic Oncology service has four full operating rooms per week. The service also has at least two half-day consolidated outpatient clinics each week. These consolidated clinics include the entire team of the assigned faculty, fellow, residents and students.
All patients, new referral cancer patients or patients with recurrent disease are presented to the Tumor Planning Conference, a multidisciplinary conference comprised of gynecologic oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists. The clinic is manned and supported with a full complement of ancillary support required for the ambulatory management of pre-invasive and invasive gynecologic neoplasms. There are additional staff continuity clinics throughout the week that occasionally involve the fellow for acute interventions or assessments.
