Subhadra Banerjee, Ph.D.
Research Associate
Dr. Banerjee received her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from Visva Bharati University, India. She then became a research fellow (1988-1989) in the Department of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. As a research fellow in Taiwan, she purified Thyrotropin (TSH) and Gonadotropin (GTH) from Carp pituitary gland. In 1990, Dr. Banerjee joined the Department of Biochemistry at Johns Hopkins University and carried out her postdoctoral training in rat prostate biology. She then became a research associate and examined the role of growth factors in rat prostate cell survival.
In 2000, Dr. Banerjee accepted a research associate position at the Cell Biology Department of Georgetown University and studied the expression of Bcl-2 protein in rat prostatic lobes. Upon moving to NIMH in 2001, her research moved from rat prostate biology to the direct and indirect outflow pathways of the striatum of rat and mice brain. She is primarily involved in micro–dissecting benign and malignant tumors using Laser Captured Microscopy (LCM). Using micro arrays, proteomics analysis of these micro dissected cells/tissues from tumors, along with other members of the laboratory, she will identify molecular alterations associated with different gynecologic cancers. Dr. Banerjee has published 25 research papers and presented her research findings at many national and international meetings.
